MFL Dual Tournament - Canceled

We have just received word that the MFL dual tournament scheduled for tomorrow night has been canceled due to the weather.  Thank you.

Optional practice this Thursday

In preparation for the Monona Duals on Friday, December 21st, there will be an optional DWC Competitive practice from 3:45-4:45 pm at the HIGH SCHOOL Wrestling room.  Although this practice was requested for those attending the Monona duals, all members of the competitive group are welcome. If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, practice will be cancelled.

DWC Recognition Night - Tuesday, January 8th

Please mark your calendars for DWC recognition night on Tuesday, January 8th.  The high school team will be competing against Caledonia at the MIDDLE SCHOOL.  At the intermission, we will introduce all DWC wrestlers (fundamental and competitive). We will post more details on the blog closer to the date.

Competitive DWC 2nd Session

The 2nd Competitive Session will begin on Thursday, January 3rd. Practice times will be the same, however the location will now be at the HIGH SCHOOL wrestling room.  Fee is $100 for second session. You can bring your payment the first night of practice (You do not need to fill out a form).

Fundamental Wrestlers

Due to Christmas break, Fundamental wrestlers will resume practice on Monday, January 7th at 6:30 pm. Practices will now be in the HIGH SCHOOL Wrestling Room!  Also, mark your calendar for DWC recognition night which will be held Tuesday, January 8th during the Decorah vs Caledonia High School Meet (at Decorah Middle School). We will announce more details soon.

Thursday practice changed to Friday

DWC's Competitive practice this coming Thursday will be rescheduled to this Friday from 6:30-7:45 pm (at middle school). Decorah Vikings will be competing against Waverly-Shell Rock this Thursday at Decorah High School, therefore practice has been rescheduled in hopes that all will attend the first home meet. Go Vikes!!

MFL Youth Duals - Friday, December 21st

DWC has been invited to participate in the 2^nd  Annual MFL Youth Duals for kids in grades K-6.  As you may recall from last year, this is a wonderful opportunity for our wrestlers to participate in a team like setting.  This event is Friday evening, December 21^st at McGregor Middle School.  This is the same night as a home double dual for the high school team. Coach Kittelson and Coach Freidhof will not be able to attend, however Charlie Rolfs and Ryan Tyler have volunteered to coach the kids.  Below is more information. Note that ALL kids can participate – Coaches will match kids according to their weight and wrestling experience (Wrestle-off’s will not be needed). Please email Charlie at charlie@irpinc.com if your child is interested in participating. Transportation will be the parents responsibility.  DWC must receive all participants names by Saturday, December 15^th so please let Charlie know by that date.

AWARDS:  NO TEAM SCORES WILL BE KEPT AND NO AWARDS WILL BE HANDED OUT.  THIS IS SIMPLY AN OPPORTUNITY TO MATCH KIDS UP BASED ON WEIGHT/AGE/AND ABILITY TO GET THE BEST MATCHES POSSIBLE.

Weigh-ins:  We are going to use the honor system so please weigh your wrestlers at your home school prior to submitting your wrestler list to me. 

DIVISION CLASSES – Kindergarten - 6^th Grade

Dec. 6th Practice at Luther AND Luther vs UW LaCrosse Dual

We have an exciting opportunity next week. Practice on Thursday, December 6^th will be held in The Paul Solberg Wrestling Complex in the Luther College Regents Center, rather than at Decorah Middle School.

Practice will start at 6:30 pm as usual.

Luther College will be wrestling UW LaCrosse in the Luther gym starting at 7 pm.

At the intermission of the Luther dual (approximately 7:45) the Decorah Wrestling Club Competitive members will be introduced and will wrestle a 1/1/1 match.

Please wear your grey 2012-13 Decorah Wrestling Club t-shirt to this practice for the introduction and match (We are trying our best to get the rest of the DWC shirts by next Thursday - at this point our plan is to hand them out at the beginning of Thursday's practice).

Admission to the Luther College dual meet is free for all of those in attendance.

At the conclusion of the Luther dual, Luther wrestlers and coaching staff will be available to autograph a free copy of the 2012-13 Luther Wrestling poster.

Luther Tournament Entry forms due

For those of you who are doing BOTH competitive sessions, DWC will pay for the Luther tnmt registration for your wrestler. Please fill out the registration form and return to practice by 7:45 pm -  Tuesday, December 4th. This form can be found by clicking on the event in our DWC calendar.

No Practice this Thursday

Due to the Decorah Vikings being in the final state playoffs, there will be no practice this Thursday.  Go Vikes!!!

Dual tournament 12/9/12

DWC is looking for wrestlers in grades K-6th to participate in a dual tournament on Sunday, December 9^th in Waseca, MN. Weights available are: 45, 50,54,58,62,66,70,74,78,82,86,90,95,105,115,130 and HWT.  If you are interested in your child attending, please email Ryan Tyler at rtyler@pfgservices.com. They do allow us to bring 6 alternates in case we have more than one kid signed up for the same weight. If we fill all of the weights and have more than six wrestlers that want to go as alternates we will discuss having a wrestle off (If kids at same weight) or a random draw for those six spots.

This is a great opportunity for kids to wrestle in a team-like setting!

Due to the Decorah Vikings in the Semi-finals this Thursday, there will be no DWC practice.  Go Vikes!!!

Luther Tournament(s) - Reimbursement

There are two Luther wrestling tournaments coming up  - November 3rd and December 8th. Remember that if your child signs up for BOTH competitive sessions, DWC pays for the admission of one of these Luther tournaments. If you plan to attend the tournament on Saturday, December 8th, please fill out registration form (form available on DWC calendar) and return to a coach at practice. We will submit your registration for you and pay the fee.  If you attend the tournament this weekend, and want that reimbursed instead of 12/8 tournament, please give copy of registration form to Coach Freidhof or Johanna.

Team apparel and singlets - due Thursday

Reminder that all DWC team apparel and singlet orders are due this Thursday at practice. Thank you!

DWC Registration Forms due Thursday

All DWC participants receive a t-shirt with their DWC registration.  Please make sure that your registration form is turned in by this Thursday if you are attending competitive practice so we can get your shirt ordered. If we do not have your registration form, we will not know what size to order.  Fundamental shirts will be ordered at a later time.  Thank you.

Swap Meet/DWC Competitive Practice Reminder

Reminder: Swap meet is Tuesday, October 16th at Decorah Middle School. Please bring gently used wrestling items if you would like to sell. Label each item with price and your name.  If item sells, you can collect cash as soon as swap meet is over.  Swap meet is for all wrestlers, including fundamental wrestlers.  Registration forms will be available for both competitive and fundamental practices.  Samples of all sizes for ordering singlets and team apparel will be available as well.  Our first competitive practice will follow at 6:30 pm.  More info can be found in previous blog post. Competitive Session

Begins Tuesday, October 16^th

·         Practices held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 pm – 7:45 pm.
·         For grades K-8^th. 
·         Cost is $100/session.

·         USA Membership
·         If participating in BOTH sessions, you will also receive entry into Luther Tournament and and one state tournament (USA or AAU).

Registration forms for DWC will be available. In addition, we will have DWC apparel forms and samples of 2012/13 apparel items.  Singlet samples will be available if you choose to purchase a new DWC singlet. DWC will also offer a SWAP meet to sell/buy gently used wrestling items. Items may include DWC singlets, practice singlets, shoes, headgear, etc.  Please attach a notecard with your name and price on each item. If your item is sold, we will collect the money and card.  At the end of the swap meet, you can collect your money or unsold gear. ***if you are selling your DWC singlet from last season, we are suggesting a sale price of $25***
