2016-2017 Decorah Wrestling Club Registration Information

2016-2017 Decorah Wrestling Club Information

Below is some important information for parents, please be sure to read in its entirety as there is A LOT of information.

DWC will have two practice age groups, K-2nd and 3rd-6th. All practices will be held in the high school wrestling room this year.

K-2nd will practice on Mondays from 6-7 PM starting Nov. 14th.
3rd-6th will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:15 PM starting Nov. 15th.

Registration for club membership is $50 and includes 10+ practice sessions, club t-shirt, and paid entry fee to the Decorah Viking Athletic Booster Club Youth Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 12th, 2017.

There is also a wavier form that the parent/guardian MUST SIGN and turn in the first night your child practices. This wavier can be found on our website. Payment for first session is due the first night of practice, as well.

Coach Freidhof will collect wavier and payments starting 15 minutes before practice is scheduled to begin on Monday or Tuesday outside the wrestling room.

SOCIAL MEDIA
We strongly suggest following our wrestling blog (www.decorahwrestlingclub.blogspot.com). This will be our primary means of communicating to parents. Below the calendar (left column) is a “follow by email” option – simply type in your email address to receive posts via email (note this is a delayed email – in some cases you will not receive until the next day) Practice changes/cancellations will be posted on blog as well as announced on the local radio stations. We encourage you to “like” our facebook page (Decorah Vikings Wrestling) to receive updates.

During the wrestling season, photos of wrestlers may be taken during practices, tournaments, and other club events. We attempt to place as many of these photos as possible on the Decorah Wrestling Club website/Facebook page as well as submitting photos to the local newspapers and/or club publications. We would appreciate every parent authorizing us to use photos of their children on our website, local papers, and publications ~ this is what builds interest with the wrestlers, their classmates and our community to participate in our club. Weather related announcements will be on KDEC and KVIK as well as on our social media. Please tune in if weather is bad. There is no secure area for coats, bags, etc. Do not let your child bring valuable clothing, watches, or jewelry. Wrestling shoes and special gear are not required. Each wrestler must wear a pair of clean, dry, soft-soled shoes into the wrestling room. Parents are encouraged to attend practice and help instruct but we request younger children not be brought into the wrestling room because it is distracting and potentially dangerous. DISCIPLINE IS OUR #1 RULE!!! Please be advised anyone unwilling to follow DWC rules will be asked to sit out. There will be no refunds.

Decorah Wrestling Club Schedule for the Week of Feb. 8th - Feb. 14th!

This will be the final week for Decorah Wrestling Club.  Due to the Decorah High School JV Tournament on Monday, K-2nd grade practice this week will be TUESDAY, FEB. 9th from 6-7 PM.  3rd-6th grade will follow with their practice from 7-8 PM.  3rd-6th grade will have regular practice on Thursday, Feb. 11th from 6-7:15 PM.  Coach Freidhof will have treats for the K-2nd graders after practice on Tuesday and 3rd-6th graders on Thursday.  Coach Freidhof would also like to make sure to collect all registration forms for those wanting to wrestle in the Decorah Youth Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 14th.  The Decorah Youth Tournament will mark the end of our 2015-2016 season - let’s end the season with a great week of practices and a great tournament!

Reminder that Waukon Youth Tournament is this Sunday, Feb. 7th, 2016!

Thursday, Feb. 4th 3rd-6th DWC Practice moved to Luther Wrestling Room at 5 PM!!!

We are moving our Thursday, Feb. 4th 3rd-6th grade DWC practice to the Luther Wrestling Room at 5 PM!  We will run a short intense 1 hour practice and then those that want to stay can head down to the gym and watch the #12 ranked Luther Norse take on the #23 ranked Central Dutch at 6 PM!

DWC K-2nd Grade Practice Tomorrow Monday, Feb. 1st is at 5:30 PM!!!

Due to the Caucuses tomorrow DWC Practice will be from 5:30-6:30 PM on Monday, Feb. 1st for K-2nd graders.  Normal Practice - just a half hour earlier! 

There is K-2nd Grade DWC Practice Tonight, Monday, Jan. 18th, 2016!!!

It may be cold outside but the wrestling room is still warm and toasty!  Even though there was no school today (Monday, Jan. 18th, 2016) we are still having K-2nd grade practice so wrestlers can get out of the house and burn off some energy!  See everyone at 6 PM tonight!

Reminder DWC Recognition Tonight (1/14/16) at the High School Meet!

Reminder to all DWC wrestlers that we will be having DWC Recognition Night tonight (Thursday, Jan. 16th) at the high school wrestling meet against Waukon.  DWC Wrestlers are asked to wear their t-shirts to get in free (parents still need to pay - sorry).  We will organize in the wrestling room at 6:40 PM.  As soon as the JV matches have concluded we will walk out and be introduced by grade level.  After the introduction we will split into 3 waves and each wave will have the opportunity to go out on the mat and wrestle a short match in front of the crowd.  The wrestlers not wrestling will sit along the side.  At the conclusion of the live wrestling we will walk as a group back into the wrestling room, have a team breakdown and then be released to go and watch the varsity dual.  Looking forward to seeing as many DWC wrestlers as possible tonight! Go Vikes!

Reminder that practices will resume today, Monday, Jan. 4th for DWC.  K-2nd graders will again be practicing on Mondays from 6-7 PM while 3rd-6th graders will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:15 PM.  Practices will continue until Thursday, Feb. 11th with our Decorah Athletic Booster Club Youth Wrestling Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 14th, 2016.
